Would give this more stars if the creek had enough water to wade in and the road to access highway 1 was open. Without those, the things to do during the day are pretty limited. I was unable to find any trails that didn't require the road being open to the coast and the campground is not very high in elevation so it is hot during the day which would be cool if you could hang out in the water but there was barely a trickle of water in it at present. You could see the after effects of the mudslides in the area and it is surprising how well it is cleaned up around the campsites. But there is lots of poison oak around (would recommend against campsite 23 as the path to it is pretty narrow with poison oak on either side so I don't see how anyone carrying anything would avoid exposure) and plenty of bugs. No campfires right now due to fire restrictions but mosquito coils worked pretty well to keep the bugs away. Campsite 6 was where we stayed and I think it is probably the best because of how much shade it had versus others. Would also be great if there was water in the creek because then it would be right next to it. Currently the water spigots at the bathrooms were all out of order but there was one working above campsite 20 or something. We ended up trying to visit the mission on hunter ligget (closed right now but open on certain days this month) and then heading to pinnacles for some hiking which was only an hour away. No gas stations after leaving 101 so plan accordingly. Oh and you currently have to drive through the army fort to get there so if you have Marijuana on you don't get caught because it is illegal on base.

Beautiful spot, very quiet and peaceful. Stars are gorgeous at night. Highway 1 entrance is still closed so no coast access.

This campground is very remote with no cell reception or barely any.The drive to it through the army base is picturesque California oaks and rolling grasslands. The road to Hwy 1 is closed and it will take about 1 1/2 hrs to get to the coast from here South or North. There are no clear hiking trails either. Bugs are plentiful here even at the most elevated campground (mosquitos, flies, lacewings, gnats and some beetles). Even with bug spray, camp smoke and a hoodie helped with bugs the most. In July it gets into the 90's too. I won't stay here again, but I do give this place an extra star for being quiet(unless you have noisy neighbors), star watching(it gets very dark), free firewood on site, dumpsters onsite for garbage and recycling, and the camp host was very welcoming and helpful.
