My husband's time in Harbor Chase of Long Grove was very helpful in his convalescence. The front office welcomed us with understanding and patience, the nurses and aides treated my husband with respect, kindness, and humor. Highly recommend!

At HarborChase, honestly is NOT the best policy. In fact it's not even a value within this organization. Others have commented that the place is nice...it is, but sadly the management is unprofessional and completely dishonest. If I would have placed my mom in this place, she would have been dead within two weeks. Absolutely NONE of her doctors suggested her to be hospice. In fact everyone who had cared for her while hospitalized stated that she will recover. The director of sales and marketing at Harbor Chase, Kathy Lurz, deemed my mom hospice. Who ever heard of a sales and marketing person over-riding a doctor to determine a person should be hospice. Here are the details of this encounter. it's stressful enough to deal with this type of situation but when you have these management-types making things worse and even scamming you out of your money....do they really expect you to place a loved one in their care??? I was eager to move to Harbor Chase back the week of May 23rd, with her transfer date on Saturday May 28th. Well the day before, the gameplan changed in a very sneaky unprofessional manner. Earlier that week, I spoke with Kathy Lurz a few times, She had an answer for everything. She requested all medical records for my mom and claimed to have reviewed them with the doctor. Again all was well; no problem moving my mom into assisted living. In every conversation I told Kathy that my mom has special needs, very limited mobility and recently had her left hand amputated.. Whatever I said, Kathy responded...no problem, we can handle it. So on Thursday Kathy suggested moving my mom into memory care light, because those patients receive more attention. I agreed to this, short-term. But on Friday, less than 12 hours prior to my mom's scheduled transport, Kathy called the social worker at the hospital and told her my mom had to be admitted as hospice. Absolutely NO doctor or any nurse suggested any kind of hospice situation. In fact everyone commented that my mom clearly is a fighter and needs intense rehab to get back on her feet. My mom has been ready to get back to her independence. NOTE---it was not Kathy but the social worker who contacted me to tell me that Kathy would be admitting my mom as hospice. The young social worked looked troubled and was clueless. Meanwhile, why didn't Kathy call me to tell me this last-minute development??? Unbelievable that a sales and marketing person decided my mom is hospice. Had I admitted my mom to Harbor Chase, today she would be dead, because she was labeled hospice by the sales and marketing person. Kathy may have been trying to get the insurance to pay for special equipment to help my mom move around. Why would the insurance pay for hospice and also restorative rehab. They will not. Kathy claimed that Harbor Chase would comp the rehab. How stupid does she think I am. She lied about everything else..would I believe my mom would get the rehab she needs. Of course not. Interestingly, Kathy asked for my credit card around 2:30 Friday claiming she needed to charge me $200/month for rental of a hospital bed for my mom for the memory care dept. Then at 3:30 she had the hospital social worker tell me they decided she would be hospice. If this was her plan, why did she want my $200? NOTE THAT SHE CHARGED MY CARD $210 knowing full well that a hospital bed was not needed because she was throwing my mom into hospice. I feel that there was attempted insurance fraud, trying to get the insurance to pay for hospice care and expecting the insurance to pay for restorative care too?? I researched quite a few assisted living facilities but hands down, this place is operated in the most unethical and unprofessional way imaginable.

Watching someone move from their home to a community can be hard to see and stressful for all. Harbor Chase helped our friend move from home to their community within a few days time, stress free! The staff is so welcoming and helpful to families and residents. From the moment you tour you meet all the staff, they truly want to get to know you! The community residents are all very friendly and welcoming to new faces! We are pleased to see our friend doing well, he looks like a new man thanks to social engagement that he was in desperate need of! Our friend was someone who was very resistive to moving to a community and Harbor Chase did a wonderful job making him feel welcome and safe!

Yes very nice
Don't know at this point. I would call them. At one point when visits were allowed had to make reservations and were put in a conference room. We share your frustration. I must say they have done an excellent job protecting their residents. I hope things work out for you an your family. Good luck and hope Christmas brings happiness.
