Although each case is unique, there is a lot of promise, as well as ongoing research, which shows stem cell therapy (using adult mesenchymal stem cells harvested from the bone marrow of the hipbone) can ease osteoarthritis by reducing pain and inflammation, improving quality of life, and, potentially, repairing and regenerating cartilage.

What kind of conditions does stem cell therapy help?

At Philadelphia PRP and Stem Cell Institute, we use stem cell therapy to benefit people suffering with orthopedic injury, overuse or age-related changes thanks to its ability to reduce inflammation, stimulate tissue repair, modulate the immune system, and provide pain relief. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, and common injuries to knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, the spine and back, and hands and wrists can potentially benefit from stem cell therapy.

Are adult stem cells legal?

That's a very complex question. In the US, at the time of writing, only a limited number of stem cell therapies, derived from cord blood, are approved by the FDA. However, regulators recognize that a physician may move a patient’s own tissues from one location to another, within the same patient, to treat certain conditions. As such, the FDA has created a set of requirements which allow a physician to use a patient’s own cells or tissues without them being considered a drug or biologic. Therefore, the stem cell therapy we provide is an FDA-accepted part of the practice of medicine, because we only process and apply adult stem cells from your bone marrow that you already have in your body.
