I never leave poor reviews, but I can't ignore this. I've tried to get my adopted son's name changed several times. I've been told different things about what was needed, missing, or incorrect. I finally went to the Lebanon office instead, was told exactly what I needed. I drive to the Pottsville courthouse for it and go to the SSA office in town hoping to get them to take care of it. I've tried previously to call for an appointment in Pottsville and got no answer. So besides a security guy kind of giving me the third degree questioning whether I called the right number (or called at all), the SSA employee eventually comes outside to tell me they don't take walk-ins. OK, then go back in and answer the phone and give me an appointment. 🙄 Instead he offers to "check my papers" there on the sidewalk and send me to Hazelton or Reading. You've gotta be kidding me. He can check them on the sidewalk, but not at a desk? I drive the hour back to Lebanon and have the paperwork processed in FIVE MINUTES! And then back home the 30 minutes to my home in Schuylkill County. What are these people being paid for, exactly? Infuriating. I'll never use that office again.

They MUST BE short-staffed. Wait times seem like FOREVER. A recording comes on with options, then you are literally dropped into a "silent void" - with NO music whatsoever. After 1/2 to an hour, you are left to hang on - while nothing happens. Eventually, you hang up, call again. Sometimes you get music...sometimes DEAD SILENCE! ... Geesh! You wonder, is ANYONE there AT ALL? C'mon people! WE PAY for these "services" only to get NOTHING IN RETURN, while the fed. govt. hands out billions in "plandemic" aid to foreign countries, the UN and foreign contractors. Wake UP people - we're being used - conned.

I'm not sure about the online thing but they could mail it to you
Yes you have to call number on door or do it online
You have to make an appointment with the ss office and bring proof of who you are
You have to call the office and try to make an appointment, but I'm not sure if their doing much in office. All my dealing with them was over the phone. I'm assuming because of covid fears
Yes gotta make an appointment until they reopen.
You have to call first. I believe they are not open to the public.
On the website
Yes
At least 10 years if he has passed
Each person is different
I would check online for forms before going to any SS office. They frequently have run out of a specific form or don't have them on hand.
Yes there should be one online or you will have to call.
It is best to go in person. You may sit for a while in the waiting room but its worth the wait in the end.
