We stayed in the cedar A frame cabin that seemed to be the most secluded unit. Be aware that the Shawnee National Forest in July is basically like the Amazon. We lived next to it many years ago but our memory had faded about how intense the bugs are. It's advisable to get back inside the cabin before dark unless you want to walk through tons of spiderwebs on the path down from the parking spot in addition to the patio being taken over by giant spiders especially right next to the front door. Even during the day you're guaranteed to get dive bombed by numerous horseflies and other bugs coming and going. I should say that the cabin itself was very nice inside and spacious, but the construction didn't seem to be tight enough to really keep the bugs out. Several times I watched bugs crawl out from the gaps in the wooden walls and then crawl back in. It didn't help that there was a window ac downstairs that really only fit so well, and there was an attempt made to seal it better with some weather stripping. Each morning their would be some dying bugs on the floor, so I assume they spray the perimeter to help with the little invaders. So I guess my point is that it's a nice place and fairly well kept up, but if you have any issues with critters and creepy crawlies being in your sanctuary space, this probably isn't for you. As a side note, the coffee provided expired a year ago and there was a bag of sugar in a cabinet that was open with the top just loosely folded over, which would seem to not help with the bug situation. I may have misunderstood about coffee being provided as part of the stay though. There seemed to be kind of a hodge podge of things left in cabinets and drawers from previous occupants. To summarize, not a bad stay at all, very memorable actually and the critters contributed to that. Just was not expecting the level of wildlife that we were besieged with.

These cabins are absolutely beautiful. Quiet. The trees are changing. Just magical.

Really cute cabin. Just a few minutes off the main road and really close to Giant City park and Carbondale. Private feel and nice scenery. Tucked into the trees. Hot tub is a great bonus after a day of hiking! Equipped with everyhing you need for meals in. As with most cabins, if you want to cook like you do at home, may want to bring your favorite pots or pans. There is just the one TV in the living room which has satellite. Bed was comfy. Nice bathroom with standup shower. Communication was good and check in was easy. Pet friendly. We didnt have one, and it wasn't noticeable if there were pets previously. Firepit in the back and gas grill on the back deck along with table and chairs. Will stay again if in the area! We enjoyed our stay!
