I was in Atascadero with my sister who just lost her 10-year old cat the day before. We visited the Ramona Road site, which is a cat-only shelter of the Woods Humane Society. My first impression is the shelter has a Cat Café vibe (without the caffeine and pastries)--very different from the typical animal shelters I've visit in Southern California. With kittens in a separate room, and FeHIV and FeLV cats isolated, the remaining cats roamed freely, providing a easy was for me to quickly assess the cats' temperaments and their interactions with humans and with each other. The staff is extremely dedicated and was emphatic to my sister's recent loss. They're very knowledgeable and do an extensive record history of each cat. In addition to Medical, they also have Behaviour records of the cats, including any quirks the cat may have (useful if you don't have a Cat Whisperer with you). Prior to an adaption, the staff does a comprehensive interview of the potential adopter to insure both human and feline compatibility. The staff gives the newly adapted cat a Going Away gift bag. After spending a day at the shelter, my sister adapted a 3-year old FeHIV ginger. She named him, HRH Prince Hairy. As an owner of 5 shelter animals myself (including a Pitt Bull on Death Row), I consider shelter animals to be some of the best animals that anyone can adapt. And while puppies and kittens are adorable, adult animals have many different personalities and that makes it easier for you to know what to expect before you bring them home. Finding homes for homeless cats is much harder than for dogs, with many cats and kittens ultimately being destroyed. It's great that there is a place like this dedicated to find homes for cats and kittens. This cat shelter in Atascadero does need donations like stationary and other supplies. You can call them to find out what items they need that you can donate.

I just adopted the most loving cat! I looked at Wood's website, for a senior kitty. I visited Saturday, and with Heather's help, found Lucky! He's an adorable senior kitty. He's been here, a couple of days, and I just love him! Thanks, to all the staff, at Woods, in Atascadero!

Yes if you come into the shelter they can give you a voucher to get a discount to your veterinarian for the neuter
They don't have dogs available for adoption.
I do not know, I adopted a cat, that's all.
There are all types of cats at the shelter..... you just need to go there and find one that is a good fit for you.
Not sure. Their website describes services in more detail.
Only cats and kittens now kay I'd have dogs or puppies you would take them to slo woods on hwy 1 next door by the honor farm county jail. And it's also next door to animal shelter
I don't know about volunteer opportunities. Best to call them. I have seen children there with the cats in the North County branch, but they could have been cat shopping
Look on their website, and SLO Animal Services website. Good luck!

You should call the shelter directly. These questions just go to regular people. That said, they do feral cat spay and release and have a "mom spay" program where they spay the mom for $25 and give her back but keep the kittens without a surrender charge. Check their website.
It normaly depends on if they have one sometimes they do and sometimes they dont
Usually have dogs and puppies depending on what has been brought in. Suggest you call or check website for current availability of adoptions.
