Wow... and whoa!!!! The ride up was so scary for me... narrow roads, snow and downed trees blocking parts of these narrow roads...steep drop offs, so steep I finally had to stop the truck and have my husband drive... but was it worth it!!!!!! The views from the top were, well.. HEAVENLY!!!! I think you could see Canada even it was so clear. And the sound... do you know what "nothing" sounds like? Or was so incredibly quiet. So peaceful. I could have stayed up here for days. We went on July 1st and there was still snow, but were still able to hike up to the overlook tower. However, we didn't quite make it all the way in our truck because snow was still blocking the last quarter of a mile to the very top parking lot. Several other vehicles had stopped short also and we had to do a 2,000 turn turn around.. on a top of a cliff!!!!! I stood on the outside of the truck so I could see how close my husband was to the edge, but he was able to do it. Apparently the other vehicles were, too. I think it would have been best to have parked in the last parking lot about a half mile before and just hiked up the rest of the way.

Amazing views! The USFS employee in the fire watch tower was welcoming and full of information. The walk to the tower wasn't bad, but the last three miles of road are narrow and rocky - best for vehicles with tires equipped to handle the rough terrain, although we did it in our Camry.

Saw a Prius up there, a good driver can make it in nearly any rig but higher clearance is recommended. Great views, awesome folks manning the lookout, well worth the trip.
