Hello, What steps does someone need to take to start in this area. Im looking into the trades and really think this is for me but I can't find a stright answer on how to start the process.

Come by the office and speak to Doug, or Eddie. Put in an application. We can put you out as a helper but I would definitely suggest putting in an application with our apprenticeship. It is a four year program where you work in the field and go to school and you get pay increases as your skills and knowledge increase. Once you complete the program you qualify for a Journey Wireman's ticket with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

Does the Mecklenburg area 4 year apprenticeship program issue a Journeyman License or is all NC electrical licensing issued by the state?

Christopher Mueller | Oct 3, 2018
IBEW LU 379 | Oct 3, 2019

The state Apprenticeship with the DOL is a 4 year or 8000 Apprenticeship program and is valied for all Apprenticeship's that are registered with the NC Stage Apprenticeship. The old Mecklenburg city/county card was discontinued last year. There is not State, County, or City Journeyman Wireman certificate, only the NC State Contractors License, which all owners of Electrical Companies have to have is valued in NC.

What is the test like to be an apprentice?

Papa William | Oct 3, 2018
IBEW LU 379 | Oct 3, 2019

The process to become an Apprentice is to fill out the Application, provide your transcripts showing you have Algebra and you passed it. Once this is done turn into CETI (Apprenticeship). They will get back with you to take an Aptitude test which is a standard government test that looks at your reading and comprehension, and math. If you score a 4 or better, you will be scheduled to interview with the Apprenticeship Committee, and if you selected you will start school in August. You can also look at this link from CETI website (http://carolinaseti.org/apply/).
