Animals seem well taken care of but customer service was so bad from one particular member (older lady) I will never be back. Been looking for a member of the family for awhile so I’ve been here a few times. I want to make sure the animal I get is fit for my family that’s why I’ve yet to adopt. I think the lady recognized me and made it abundantly clear she didn’t want me there. I smiled at her when I walked in and she gave me a disapproving look and grimaced. I was also wanting to volunteer here but absolutely not now! Everyone else was very helpful and sweet.

I personally have not had a experience of the staff just being straight rude to me but, my only issue is that it’s almost impossible to get ahold of anyone through the phone. I’ve called so many times trying to figure out information about strays and they just don’t answer. I know they use to cause I’ve never had this issue until about the past 6 months. It’s to the point my own vet said if I needed information about the animal I adopted from them they would call themselves cause they know how hard it is just to get them to pick up the phone. It’s just very frustrating when they are the only place in the city who handles strays and different things like that. Reading some of these recent reviews are very heartbreaking seeing how many issues people have had with them not informing people about animals medical history or personality traits (truthfully). Worst of all hearing how quick they are to put down an animal. If you don’t truly go to work everyday to love those animals and give the any treatments they need so they can get the best fighting chance at a good life, why are you even employed there? It’s like having a teacher who despises kids it makes no sense lol. Do better guys.

If you or anyone is having an issue with stray pets, please call 229-671-2760 to make a stray animal report. If the pet belongs to someone, please provide us with the address at the time of the call.
Yes I just adopted a 1 year Australian shepherd with ice blue eyes . They have alot of nice animals. The shelter is partnered with rescues in case the animal does not get adopted out .
Depending, its usually about 50 dollars per cat
Please call 229-671-2760 with any questions or concerns.
This isn't a no kill shelter, they do everything to adopt out animals turned in or get them in rescue as long as they are healthy and friendly
Only pets that are adopted from the shelter are spayed (female) or neutered (male) in accordance to Georgia state law (O.C.G.A. Title 4, Chapter 14 - Sterilization of Dogs and Cats in Shelters) and with a local veterinarian. If you have a pet that needs to be altered, contact a local veterinarian of your choice. There are additional resources available as well. Spaygeorgia.org can be found at https://www.spaygeorgia.org/. Valdosta/Lowndes Humane Society offers a low cost spay/program at 229-242-7729. South Georgia Low Cost Spay/Neuter clinic in Thomasville can be reached at 229-236-7297. Friendly reminder that all cats and dogs over the age of three months have to have a current rabies vaccination. This vaccination is state mandated and are only obtained with a veterinarian of your choice.

The shelter’s volunteer program is currently suspended due to COVID-19. When guidance is provided to reinstate the program, minimum age is 18 years of age for all volunteers.

The shelter opens to the public at noon and closes at 3 today.
This is the same as "the pound" yes. I have no idea what the fee is for recovery.
Please call the shelter at 229-671-2760.
I'm sure Zillow has some lovely offers.
We have a great mix of adoptable pets. Adoption hours are Tuesday to Friday, from noon to 4:30 and Saturday from noon to 3:30.
We are an open access shelter but we do not guarantee anyone's outcome. Please contact local rescue groups or rehome your pet.
