Well, I gave Bloomberg 2 opportunities to avoid the wrath of my pen, but …oh well. First disclosure, I’m a mechanical engineer so I’m pretty adept with assemblies. The eyeball components and materials, if not the physics of optics, are basically low hanging fruit. I also know business and the U.S. health insurance undercurrents as they influence these medical points of sale and their care rationing decisions. That said, I don’t know if you have medicare, but if you only have medicaid (commoner care), as I do, you may as well save your gas money because none of these practices, on U.S. soil at least, are going to see the opportunity cost in their favor to give you an honest diagnosis, god forbid treatment. You won’t get beyond the office visit and they’ll just humor you by telling you you’re perfect and cured. Every one of the 14 optometrists I have seen over the past 3 years has witnessed and informed me that I have significant residual scarring on my cornea from an abrasion and that it is most likely causing acuity loss and visual deficiency. Every one of the 6 refractive surgeons has said there is no scarring and nothing wrong. The former (optometrists) have no surgical training to go beyond a simple diagnosis and therefore are not seeing a financial hit if they divulge and were to then become obligated to treat and have to jump the ohio medicaid moat where you could wait on hold for 7 hours. The latter however, are exposed to that potential red tape and measly reimbursement, so there you go. You do the math. So now my only path out of this 4 year long nightmare where I can’t even look at a computer beyond a minute without inviting pulsating (btw medicaid only covers enough to maintain a pulse) eye strain is to find an engineering job where I can work remote, use an eye patch to isolate the good eye, work long enough beyond the 90 day health insurance pre-existing purge wait chamber, get the employer Cadillac insurance, and then …reach the peak of the mountain to the simple 10 minute procedure to laser the scarring off my cornea and return it to its former self. Last point, it’s also obvious you’ve been excluded early on, based on your “coverage”, when they use you as intern lab practice, tests done inconsistently and incompetently, dilation completely unnecessary for the doctor’s 2.5 second (no money here) look at your cornea, on and on.
