Let me first say thank you to the admissions director stef she was amazing to speak with. I had the pleasure of speaking with her during some difficult times dealing with my loved ones. Highly suggest great staff and experience overall.

My mother was just discharged after a rehab stay recovering from Covid. Our family was not happy with her experience there. We discovered while she was in quarantine for the first WEEK, and unable to get out of bed unassisted, with no other way to call for help, her call bell had not been working, it was discovered by my brother after trying to use the bell and noting it was not functioning. Her room had cracks in the wall, in the paint and a window screen with a hole in it, shabby, chipped furniture and a bent bed rail. She was given milk on her trays daily when she was lactose intolerant, given foods she does not eat due to her diabetes, and foods that should have been on her tray were printed on the slip, but she did not have them on her tray. There were days she was dressed and ready for physical therapy, but no one arrived to see her. A “makeup session” given to her on the weekend was only 15 minutes, rather than the thirty minutes that should have been made up. My mother had three falls in her room during her stay while under their care. We had ONE meeting with the team at OUR request, because no one had reached out to us regarding her plan of care after more than two weeks of her admission. No other meetings were scheduled for us to speak with the entire team for the remainder of her stay. Teaching for insulin injections and management was done day of discharge, again, after I raised concern that we had no teaching offered. No one came to assist or teach w/c to car transfer on day of discharge. I placed a phone call and left a message, along with a follow up call to Donnie, the director of the facility to discuss concerns a week PRIOR to my mother’s discharge and never received a return phone call. My sister accompanied my mother on a return trip from acute care, walking into the facility at one a.m., the front entrance open and unattended, with no security, and she was able to walk in and get upstairs without anyone noticing. Concerning because anyone from outside could have done the same. I called one day to speak to therapy supervisor, to be told by front desk she was not in that day, I learned later from my mother she had in fact, been seen by her for a therapy session that same day. Nursing staff, PCT’s were kind and attentive, she loved her speech therapist and OT’s. Canterbury should do better with providing family education, more consistent team meetings, management and accuracy of diet and meals, and making sure therapy frequency and makeup sessions are met. Fourth floor rooms are clean but quite shabby.

The communication and care is awful! My father was severely dehydrated when I picked him up. All new pajamas and day clothes were stolen “lost in laundry service”. Do not leave your loved ones here.

Canterbury is the best place to be, we have good staffs and we take good care f our residents, we try our possible best to make them feel at home.

Stay as far away as you can. I had to make numerous calls to the state Obudsman's office in Trenton. Father n law suffered irreparable harm in this facility. He passed on April 4 2020 Good Luck
