Unfortunately surfaces usually need to be repaired by Microsoft since they are glued together. I think Microsoft has a standard replacement policy for flat rate. You might want to call then or I've seen a lot of refurbished surfaces for sale.
As long as you have the Apple ID and account that was on it last I should be able to reset it
