Questions & Answers

What is the cost to appraise a piece of art?

John Fortino | Oct 2, 2018
David Moskowitz | Oct 2, 2018

Depends, call them & ask to speak with a specialist in the items you want to sell. You may be able to negotiate.

How does one go about obtaining an appraisal?

stanley alper | Oct 2, 2017
David Moskowitz | Oct 2, 2017

Call them and ask to speak with someone who specializes in the things you want to sell at auction. This will result in a preliminary screening with a follow up that will either have them come to you or you bring the stuff to them. For example, they come to you for large items (e.g., furniture) & you go to them for smaller (e.g., jewellery). Good luck

Call Freeman's auction house and they will help you

I have a number of pictures and artifacts from a Collector. She sold us the house and left for us a number of nice things. Can we bring them in to the gallery to be appraised?

Laverne Bess | Oct 2, 2019
Will Bast | Oct 2, 2019

You should call them and make an appointment.

I want to attend an auction. Do I need to register to bid, even if I don't plan to buy anything?

Christine Schwarz | Oct 2, 2019
Will Bast | Oct 2, 2019

No you can just watch. FREEMANS also ha a good app that you can use to watch results.

You can't get a specialist I the phone, always have to leave a message. I have emailed several times and once again no response. I would so like an appraisal on a painting. Are you still in business?

Diana Manzoni | Oct 2, 2019
James Jacobson (One Who Seeks) | Oct 2, 2019

I have emailed them with questions and been responded to. The key is likely in finding the specific specialist for your painting. Here's the list of people https://www.freemansauction.com/specialists Scroll through that and then find the specific person that would be familiar with the style of your painting, then click on the "email" tag next to their name. This will get your message straight through to the proper person and avoid the machinery of a general email. Good luck!

I have a few items that nobody locally, seems to know anything about. How do I go about getting an idea of their worth, and also, cannot figure out the artists' name, on one of the pieces.

Freeman's | Oct 2, 2019

Hi Jane, thanks for reaching out. We suggest you visit the estimate inquiry page (https://www.freemansauction.com/request-an-estimate). Here, you can submit photos and any other information about your objects. Once you've submitted, a specialist will be in touch shortly. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Why not call them directly?

Both Baedeker lots have the same photo. Can you please identify the lots more precisely? Do you arrange shipping to an address in the US? Regards S.Nassar

Sauheil Nassar | Oct 2, 2018
Freeman's | Oct 2, 2018

Thanks for the question Sauheil. I believe our books department just sent you an email, but I will respond here as well: Lot 234 is comprised of 3 volumes, one volume on Palestine and Syria and two volumes on Egypt. Lot 235 is made of 11 volumes, all on European countries and/or regions. Please see our website for the full description of each lot. The photo is a group shot. But David is right, it is fastest to contact us directly for future questions.

As an auction house, who knows what Freeman's will have at any point in time. Call them and ask. Note: answers here are provided by the community, not the business establishment.

What is Alasdair Nichol's email address?

Robert Payne | Oct 2, 2018
David Moskowitz | Oct 2, 2018

This isn't the place to ask for that information. Answers are provided by the community & are public.
