My sister and I were in this program for a bit. There weren’t any stable resources available to secure work to pay for their more recent apartment program so when I lost my job due to Covid, Ms. Whitehead wouldn’t help us find sustainable ways to secure a place of employment. Also, our apartment through the program got broken into and there was no support from the program. Going from homelessness to getting your first apartment broken into, was a traumatic experience that the program wasn’t qualified to support us through. On the outside, it seems like an ideal transitional place for young adults, however, in practice, there’s no genuine structure, support or security that helps young adults to get back on their feet.

I lived at ignite for about 5 months before finally being transitioned out to a more permanant living residence. While I was there as a minor I was not provided with adequate mental health support nor basic needs such as food and a comfortable living environment (as many others have mentioned the nights in the basement were often unbearably hot and there was no way to lessen this than to open your bedroom door) . While some employees tried to make up for this to the best of their abilities most were only focused on their paychecks. I could often hear details of my case being discussed and debated about between staff members and often were my inquisitions met with hostility from staff. While transitioning, communication between me, my caseworker and my new living area was lacking, and oftentimes I had to serve and a connection for between the two while also being a minor, a full time student and balancing a job and the trauma of homelessness at 16. While I do think ignite could provide some people with the connections they need to further themselves in life I'd recommend you look somewhere (anywhere) else before making ignite your final option.
