The store staff were very friendly very knowledgeable. The 1st time I was here was in 2002. The second time was 9/5/22. I wish I could come more often. My dog and I hiked to Lone Pine Lake. Highly recommend. I camped at Lone Pine Campground.

The Whitney Portal store is run by the Inyo National Forest; California National Forests are closed until at least 17 September 2021. I exited at the portal today, and confirmed the store was closed.

Is Whitney Portal Store run by the same people as Whitney Portal Hostel and Store. They seem to have the same website. Is restaurant in the Whitney Portal Store ( the one at the trailhead) open right now ?

I don't know of the owner affiliation, the restaurant at the trail head is open with limited selections. Side note, I don't think they have changed or filtered there frier oil in a while.
