I wish I could give ZERO stars! Sadly, I would NEVER, in good conscience, recommend the Emergency Department at Newman Regional Health to ANYONE, in ANY situation… EVER! There’s a HUGE lack of morality and ethics that is spreading like a virus in the Emergency Department. In my experience, this hospital's ER staff are extremely rude, unprofessional, and downright negligent. In am emergency situation, I believe it would be worth risking driving to another hospital, than to risk having to fight with negligent doctors to pay attention and listen to patients, which is extremely sad! In my recent experiences, all of the doctors, and at least one nurse, that I have encountered in the E.R. were hostile, rude, and TERRIBLE to deal with. When people become doctors, they swear an oath that amounts to "DO NO HARM;" however, that oath is the exact opposite of what you can expect from Newman's ER doctors. Here are some specific parts of the oaths that are NOT upheld by doctors at Newman ER: "I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug." "I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required..." “I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.” For anyone that needs to seek treatment for a child, they should know that children are NOT safe in this Emergency room! When they are brought in with true medical emergencies, doctors will overlook symptoms, dismiss concerns, and do the minimum required; resulting in sending patients home with potentially life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical attention. If/when someone is brought back, (due to lack of diligence/care the first time), you can expect to be met by hostile doctors, incl. some nurses, who treat the children and parents as a nuisance and inconvenience. The doctors at Newman ER have NO bedside manner and frighten children by threatening extreme medical procedures to try to scare patients and avoiding having to do their jobs; like assessing and treating their patients. If I hadn't forced doctors to look further and do additional testing, my child could have ended up in the ICU or dead; even on the SECOND visit in less than 12 hours. After this, I spoke with a hospital administrator who assured me that they would take these concerns very seriously; however, the next time my child was ill and I sought emergency treatment, the same thing happened. The doctor took one look at my kid and was ready to send my sick child home with, “just a virus.” Only strep and COVID swabs were ordered, and only one rest result was back; NO other tests were ordered. When I asked questions, the doctor got VERY rude and sarcastic with me and said that his opinion was based on a fever with no symptoms, but when I mentioned the symptoms that were stated at intake, the doctor scared my child (to tears) by sarcastically bringing up a life-threatening medical condition and threatening aggressive and scary procedures to prove me wrong. Just being in a hospital can be scary for a child, but it's made SO MUCH worse when the doctor, rudely and sarcastically, describes very scary procedures in front of a sick child. The parent in the room is CLEARLY the only adult in the building concerned for their child's health. What I can't look past though, is that this place and the care provided (or lack thereof) has placed a deep mistrust in medical staff in my child, and I cannot forgive that!! NO ONE deserves to be treated the way my child and I have been treated; ESPECIALLY by someone who swore an oath to be responsible by providing the best care possible with warmth and sympathy.

Dr. Mark Austenfeld and his Nurse Laura have always been very kind and helpful to me. They have helped me with many important medical issues. That help enabled me to recover from acute Sarcopenia and some other important urological conditions.

I had a good Doctor and the Nurse was very helpful and nice. But if you need any kind of help at the Counter dont go to the Hispanic Women if you're White they just ignore you, they only acknowledge Hispanics you have to go to any other person to be helped. That was on the second floor in the Surgery department.

Our visitation schedules encourage family togetherness. Dad and other immediate family members may visit at any time. From 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. daily we observe a “quiet time” on the unit. We encourage moms and dads to rest during this time. Open visiting hours are at the mother’s discretion.
