Awesome State Park and Campground. The campground is gorgeous, located on Savage Island with huge oak trees covered with Spanish moss. I stayed three days, site #44 on Possum Trot Loop. Most of the campsites are shaded and level with fire pits and picnic tables. Walked a beautiful nature trail, observed deer, raccoon, squirrels and birds. The park was quite and peaceful sits on the banks of the Ogeechee River. Toured the Civil War Museum and walked around the fort. I definitely will come again.

Fort is beautiful. Trails are very interesting as they open to the river. Campground extremely well taken care of, with large wooded sites. Clean bath houses. Overall a very nice campground.

Park staff very helpful. Pay to go in, not too expensive $-$$. Dogs allowed kept leashed, big plus for us as we had two. Attractive area close to the water. Easy area to walk around. Great piece of history. Small museum attached to park office with interesting artifacts and stories.

A remarkable piece of history that is welcoming, clean, convenient and safe. For those who love the outdoors, enjoy both water and plenty of wildlife - moss hangs from the trees and there are plenty of pictures to be taken. Fans of US Civil …

Well...the bike we rented was not so great. The chain kept falling off ..handle bars were crooked and if we didnt have tools we would have spent most of the time at the office getting it fixed. The office is not close to the campground. Nice looking bikes and the people are nice too.
Not aware of that but they are nice
We called last minute due to car trouble and got a site. Not sure if they have walk up sites for RV.

Yes all year round
Yes it has tent sites and here is where you can get pricing and reserve sites https://gastateparks.org/FortMcAllister
I'm not sure either. I'd call the office directly. They're very helpful.....wow, that would be a beautiful wedding site!
They have a fire ring with a grill rack
I didn't see any renovations going on..
As with most state parks pets are not allowed in the cabin /Cottage areas. But this park allows pets only in cottage/cabin number 3.
Don't know. Check website. Sorry
7.00 per person...5.00 for park entrance.
You can definitely camp at the park, worth every penny.
Yes, on your campsite. No alcohol can be consumed in public spaces.
If you have a boat or kayak you can put in red bird creek at the campground and there's a sand bar hang out area about a half mile going out. Couple hours before and after low tide. There are kayaks to rent also.
We had a rv. Just bring plenty og bug repellant *n June.
It's quite large you can chech the website
The Local on 17 doesn't have a buffet but they gave some AWESOME food!! And nit very far from the campground.
there's several Park areas and docks nice trails several of them are boarded to allow handicap access however the main trails are not handicap friendly the camping areas are rather easy to get to safe for a wheelchair and especially the first three or four parking areas they're made in such a way to make it easy to get in and out it is a very nice park
Mother's Day might be a bit crowded. Go early and secure a spot. Take some kind of sunshade device as it is supposed to be bright
Yes to primitive camping, but its in the campground. Not much back country hiking. Most of the park is tidal marsh. From now through the summer, the mosquitoes and gnats are fierce.
I called and was told that the pier is repaired and open for fishing. $5.00 fee to fish.
Flooding from the storm surge along with downed trees. I'd highly suggest calling ahead to confirm that they'll be open for that date.
