Your much cheaper, but also much longer option would be taking a bus.
Depends on when you purchase your ticket. With Amtrak earlier is better. That route starts around $155 one way for a single coach seat. The rooms will be more of course. A same-day ticket (one-way) on the Silver Star is $249.
