Sent our 15 year old daughter for the Tanzania trip summer of 2015. It was horrendous. The supervising adults were all under 25 and two of them left and couldn’t take it abandoning our kids! The remaining leader had to leave the kids - all teenagers in the African jungle to go into town hours away to secure clean water. These kids resorted to drinking liquid out of canned vegetables to survive. My daughter and half of team became sick and no one ever called us and no medical team was brought in. For nine days my daughter couldn’t manage to climb out of her tent except to crawl on hands and needs to take turns at the squatty potty with all the other sick kids. Thankfully a local minister came to the rescue pastor Frank from Arise school and guarded these kids and kept them safe. At one point they visited a mine and climbed in and my daughter said when they came out a group of men was trying to buy them as wives. Pastor Franks armed guards ran the men off. They literally has armed guards with machine guns entire mission. This was an unsafe trip and can’t believe I raised 10k to send my kid into this situation. We trusted them because they came to a summer Bible camp in Arkansas to recruit and seemed legit. Awful organization. After returning home we found out why they don’t let them have phones. They would have called and told us parents how bad it was. We owe her life to Pastor Frank and Arise school that stepped in when a teen Missions failed!

I was here when I was 10, so 1988. My aunt, Ina Sorensen, was one of the bus drivers for the organization. I was part of the puppet evangelism team. I have lots of memories, mostly good and fond. I can still remember the obstacle course. I think I might try to come back for a visit and volunteer. Would be nice to reunite with the team members. I wonder if I can find the VHS that was made for our group. Would love to watch it again.

Over a decade later, I still regret much of this summer trip, especially the leadership and how the organization treated the kids. I recommend parents not trust their kids with this missions organization unless they first have a long talk with the organization and others who have recently gone. Many of us on the trip felt lied to because their descriptions were only a mere fraction of what we did, and the staff treated us terribly, which actually was intentional.

No, it's still running and training young people in missions and discipleship. They sent teams out this summer and have summer 2022 trips on their website.
