I would give less if possible. There is no way a kids(schools) field trip that was planned months in advance would be cancelled without proper notice. Horrible imo. My son sat in a parking lot and no one would accommodate their planned visit. They even just asked to walk around by themselves in front of the orchard and we're denied. Shirts were made for this trip. People took time off work to attend. Disgusting considering the climate. Terrible communication from Machado's and kids were hurt as a result. Congrats.

Machado Apple Barn is friendly, well run, and clean with emphasis on local in season produce.

This place is great! Really tasty pepper jellies and tons of creative flavors of jams and sauces. The orchard is beautiful.

Their Facebook page has a post: soft opening around the fifteenth of May.
Ikedas pies very good. All of them. They get the crusy just right. However not cheap and always crowded weekend or not. The folks from Bay area will pay anything i giess. Few locals ever go there!! There are some fine local Auburn wineries, yet Ikedas stock none of them!! All there Wines are from Napa and the coast. If you want something a lot more local you should stop in Newcastle at Newcastle Produce. Really good lunch, local produce and local wine! Just off I-80 3 miles before Auburn. This is also a favorite with the bicycle crowd because of the organic nature of all their food. Nobody bicycles to Ikeda! There is also a great sandwich shop called "The Rat Trap" nearby. And a really good Itialian restaurant. And a good wood fired pizza place called Newcastle Pizza. All at top of the hill around the town square. Well worth a look!! The locals will hate me for telling you all this!
Depends. For gravies, flour of course. For other foodies corn starch.
