I want to start off with the positive. I think that Pastor Wes does a wonderful job with preaching the word. That is really important. I just don’t think this is one of the most welcoming churches I’ve ever been to, and if you are a person of color I’m not sure if this is the church for you. I deeply hope that you will be able to find community in this church, but it may be more challenging for you. I was least impressed with the people I met at the young professionals class. Seemed a little superficial. Cordial enough, but with no real intentions to get to know you as a lot of them are very tight knit, which is understandable. The group seems very clique. I’ve been to so many churches at this point, it’s easy to tell the atmosphere within a short time period. I think I may like the international ministry they have better since that group is a lot more diverse. I’ve never had an issue with being in the minority as I moved here from out of state, and I was the only minority in our young professionals class there. The area I lived in wasn’t diverse at all but everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It seems that this church and others in the area are vastly different in that sense compared to what I’m used to in the Midwest. Maybe I’m just not use to the culture on this side of the world. I do appreciate how the Pastor preaches the word of God and I hope in a world where people want the gospel to be watered down for fear of being cancelled that he remains steadfast.

Hello Herb, We do not have a mah Jongg group here at FIRST. If you are asking on behalf of an older lady who is looking for some community we have ministries that she would enjoy, and we would love to have her join us. Here are two webpages that I would encourage you to look at. http://fbccola.com/firstseniors/ and http://fbccola.com/music/. If you have any question about our Senior Adult ministry you can contact Rev. Richard Humphries Pastoral Care & Senior Adult Minister at 803-343-8585
