Food quality has definitely improved with the new owners, restaurant is nice and bright inside and so much cleaner than it was years prior! Pretty expensive though...

After moving away I've come back 4 years later and had to have hulas. What a bummer. Food is tasteless and pineapple is like water. The wonton recipe changed with the new owners and taste like bitter chemicals. The rice is mushy and watery as I can assume that too is a different recipe. I noticed the grills were new/completely different. They were very clean (which may appeal to some) and had absolutely no good flavor seasoned into it. Also the kids running it though they are nice are obviously very young and don't know how to properly cook the food. Not once did they pour any water on the grill while cooking our food and we watched all of our sauces sear to the grill and brought home tasteless food. The soup had a similar taste to I enjoyed that instead of my meal. I know I can't expect perfection now being under new ownership. But as a native chicoan this is NOT the hulas I grew up with and have no reason to come back. I'm glad I tried it under new ownership but it's never gonna be classic hulas ever again. Also prices are stupid and they can "try" to justify it by writing nasty responses to their reviews but no it's definitely not worth it. I'm really surprised by the sass on these new owners.

Calling ahead and Informing staff about a large party will help you get the area you require, but it won't be saved as a reservation, staff will try and seat other guests in a way that will still allow for larger parties to sit together

I would call them and see.
