The Commander is an institution, caringly renovated. It isn't lush or overdone, but offers good taste and modesty, homely comfort. If you ignore the Marriott overlay of a phone tree and instead get the front desk, they are helpful and hospitable. Wonderful location, often guests enjoying conversation on the patio or in the lobby until late. My fellow travelers are always pleased with their stay.

Incredibly disappointing. Besides the manager and porter, all the other staff were extremely rude. The hotel rooms were decent enough, but there are no fridges or microwaves (in the whole building). One of the two beds in our room was so hard to sleep on that we had to cram into the other bed. It's a short walk to Harvard Square, which I'm sure is the main appeal of this place, but it's very expensive and doesn't even hold up to the standard of other Marriott hotels. There is no complimentary breakfast and the cost of parking is high. I wish I'd chosen to stay somewhere else.

very nice hotel and friendly staff. but the cost is dear. safe to walk around through strange people can be spotted around the harvard square.
