The food was good! Just the waiter was a bit rude and rushing us…

The food overall is decent to average. Nothing amazing. The part that bothers me is that the staff is very unaccommodating for a larger group (which in a small town like this, it is very common to have groups of 10) and don't offer any real solutions. Instead they just turned down all our questions/suggestions on how we can get everyone together...you really should do more than just say "no" without trying to figure something out. Also, extra chip baskets are $2 a piece. What kind of Mexican restaurant charges for the second basket of chips? This one. I will instead just wait on Puerto Nuevo to rebuild so I can experience much better service and food.

We went on a Thursday evening. Things were quiet and there was only one other party there. Food was so terrible we couldn’t even eat it. The food was cooked in a rush and not brought out together. My taquitos were cold on the ends but filled with so much grease the center burned my tongue. Usually, employees notice if if you haven’t eaten anything. The food was cooked in a rush and not brought out together. 1. Burritos and Churrizos (desert). 2. Quesadillas. 3. Sour cream “salad.” 4. Taquitos, 5. Lumpy flan that was falling apart. Couldn’t even ask for a second spoon. Quesadillas weren’t not the size the waitress told me but they were. We ordered two more before we tasted them and realized they were disgusting. That was NOT queso blanco or anything that tasted like a normal quesadilla. It tasted like white American cheese and was worse than the ones I make at home in 3 minutes but cost me $8. The second ones were burnt and cooked in a hurry. Employee service was unacceptable given the demeanor of the man behind the bar and that they rushed us without asking us how anything was (terrible thanks). We couldn’t get there until 15 minutes before close but we were treated like an inconvenience than a customer. Others were there after close. The employees were more concerned about leaving work as soon as they could than hospitality or patron business. Not sure if they’re actually from Mexico but their hospitality didn’t seem to match any parts of the country except maybe kind of like Monterrey. We had to walk up to the bar to get our own to-go box, extra napkins and to-go cup. The refill wasn’t even the same drink I had. We were the only ones left in the restaurant by the way. We were very nice. I lived in Mexico and spoke in Spanish to them. Usually people are excited and happy when they find out I speak fluent Spanish. They make an effort to converse and ask me where I learned. When they told us we needed to hurry and submit our order because the kitchen was closing at 9:00 sharp, we should’ve gotten the hint they didn’t want us there and left. The food was nothing like you expect Mexican or AUTHENTIC Latin food to be like. Taco Bell tex-mex is better and doesn’t cost $40. It was very bland and worse than the Mexican food I cook at home. I hate to be completely negative so the good thing is the food was hot and the place was clean. The waitress wasn’t a jerk and had a pleasant personality despite the other service gaps. She was likely instructed to tell us we had to submit our order right then and wasn’t able to wait on us because she was expected to sweep, clean tables, put chairs up and whatever else.

Not just a bad Mexican restaurant, but a bad restaurant with bad food in any cuisine. These other positive reviews are obviously fake and the only reason we tried it despite it being empty when other restaurants all had an hour wait. The chips and salsa were a flag. We asked if the salsa was made here and got an intelligible answer in the tone of how absurd to ask. Feeling guilty and only out of guilt that we’d been seated and served chips and salsa we ordered 4 soft tacos just to make sure we don’t ruin the night. They tasted like prepackaged frozen chipped beef steamed on a griddle to room temp and topped with queso fresco on a cold prepackaged tortilla. A river of water runs out of them when you pick them up. Completely unseasoned and bland. We tabbed out and had amazing food at a Thai restaurant down the street that was packed and luckily had an empty table.
