If you ever wondered what hell on earth looks like just come to the Ravenswood House on 24th St. especially after 4pm everyday except Sundays. You will see a bunch of older folks selling a lot of "stuff". PSA 9 does absolutely nothing about it. And housing fails to do anything about it. Working families get harassed but not the other residents. Police Department must be on these people's payroll as well.

Public housing rents are INCOME and ASSET based. If you work, you have to fill out yearly forms stating your employer, your income, and any savings you have, they will determine your monthly rent amount. If you have an air conditioner, there is also a small surcharge for electricity. If you have a washing machine, there is small surcharge for extra water. You cannot have both a washer and dryer. If you are on asocial service program or on disability, your rent will be paid through the program. Apartment sizes are based on how many people are in your family. Some NYCHA projects have a small 4 room and a large 4 room, those are 2 bedroom apartments. The bedrooms are usually larger in the large 4, so is the kitchen. Years ago, prospective tenants were able to pick the NYC borough where they wanted to live, now, since the waiting list is extremely long, prospective tenants have to accept whatever apartment is available. Hope this information helps.
There is a long waiting list. The only people who stands a better chance or I think I should say more considered are people who are homeless our people of domestic violence .
