I'm basing this review solely on my initial experience and not the actual provision of gas/electric. We've just moved into an apartment. We received notice from the property owner that the utilities would be removed from their account on Friday evening. Our first interaction with O&R was a complete lack of weekend staff dedicated to the purposes of starting/restoring utility service, which I'm told is not a staffing issue, but just how they do things. Needless to say, by Monday morning the utilities were shut off. It took half of the day to find out that the address in their system did not match the postal address. After sorting that issue out, we were assured that their automatic system would turn utilities on two days later at 5am. Come Wednesday morning, no utilities. To make matters even worse, there are no representatives available before 8am for any reason outside of an emergency outage. At 8am we called and were told that the automatic system fails sometimes, which is deeply concerning. Customer service was not very pleasant while being asked questions about how and why this system just seems to fail randomly. She put a work order in to have a technician turn our utilities on manually. Something that apparently couldn't have been done the day before. It is still currently winter, and we spent 2 days without heat, hot water, or electricity, all for the sake of letting an unreliable computer system NOT do it's job. Now in addition to being cold, and extremely frustrated, I have to wonder if this system ever fails to keep utilities on.

We are charged a forecast charge every month but never reimbursed for it, so we are essentially paying 2 electric bills each month for absolutely no reason. We live in a tiny loft studio apartment with no washer, no dryer, no dishwasher and only a handful of LED light switches. Zero appliances. Tell me why our bill is so expensive? Terrible customer service. Wish there was any other option but unfortunately they have a monopoly and treat their customers like total trash. This should be illegal.

I have tried calling, emailing till my face turns BLUE…they never ever respond. I gave one star because u have to give something. There customer service…I can’t tell you, cause I can NEVER get them. The only way to get through is to say you have an emergency situation, and I don’t want to do that. Now I have no choice but to travel to one of their offices and hope I get resolution. NY is much worse than NJ .

The customer service is not their strong suit. No help or direction on how to create an account with them. This is why competition is extremely important with utility companies.
