Fun area to hike around with some nice views of the surrounding mountains. The rock climbing here was a nice treat with well bolted sport climbs. I'll be checking it out again in the future.

A place of such natural beauty and epic viewpoints that can only be fully appreciated by being there in person. Nature is beautiful don't make it ugly with your trash...it's lighter to pack it out than it is to pack it in. :)

Quiet hike, goes about 6 miles round trip and is about 1,200 ft elevation.

Is this trail still open to the public? Made the trek out there today but was a little confused by the signage. (12/13/2016)

To get to fossil rock you need to get a pass from the land owner to use the trails. Its gated and they only let so many people in. You can get them online but they only sell them once a year, and it's a bit of a scramble to get them. It's a pretty easy hike. Mostly gravel roads.
Either in Clearwood at the 2nd entrance gate or straight across from the entrance to fossil rock.
I do believe you can purchase a vehicle permit through Weyerhaeuser. I've seen a truck up there once before, but you would also need a key for the gates, not sure how you get that. I've always just hiked it
People go up there all of the time.
