My family decided to purchase one of their pups for our sons. It was a great experience from the first phone call. Mike was always friendly and willing to set up times that I could visit our pup. He explained everything very thoroughly so I …

Where do I begin? I can’t even rate this because it’s that pathetic and wrong. This past June I was in contact with Mike (owner of Cedar River Labs) in regards to a female, yellow/white lab. We placed a $200 deposit at the time with Mike to …

My yellow lab is 4 years old this past December. She is the best dog I've ever had in my life. Very mellow, loves everyone, never any problems with her, and very healthy. Excellent breeder who loves his dogs. Breeder posts photos …

PROS: - Good looking dog - Low price CONS: - Poor communication from breeder - Slow response times from Mike - We are from out of town so we set up a time to visit the puppy before picking her up and confirmed that time twice, but Mike canceled on us the day before, saying he wasn’t going to be around - Mike told us he’d send us home with a bag of the kibble he’d been feeding the puppies; when we went to pick her up he said they didn’t have any for us - Vet issues - We took puppy to the vet the day after bringing her home and she had both fleas and roundworms. The vet said this was likely from the breeder. Both issues were resolved fairly quickly through medication. - Breeder was disorganized with other important details - We were given paperwork with conflicting information (dames and birth dates were different on two separate documents) - When we followed up with Mike about this, he said he gave us the wrong documents. He said he would mail us the correct documents but never did. - Then he told us he was mixed up and our dog was actually born 4 weeks earlier than he had initially stated (more details below). We were under the impression we were taking home a 10-week-old puppy, but when we followed up about the discrepancy in the documents (after taking her home), Mike said he thinks our dog was actually 14 weeks old at the time we picked her up. Unfortunately, after texting and calling Mike multiple times, we still have not heard back or been able to get final clarity on this. Either Mike is very mixed up, or we were buying a puppy under incorrect pretenses. The paperwork is not a huge deal because we do not plan on registering our dog with the AKC, but the dog’s age was important to us for early developmental milestones (such as socialization) and for accurate future veterinary care like vaccinations and her spay surgery. Overall, we are happy with our dog and the price but underwhelmed with the level of professionalism from the breeder.
