The mansion and grounds are well maintained. The volunteers on site are very knowledgeable and friendly.

I had my wedding here at Sonnenberg Gardens. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful place to get married. When I saw the ceremony site at the wedding rehearsal, I was overcome with joyous tears. I couldn't stop crying because it was everything I hoped it would be and I was so excited to get married to my husband there the next day. The ceremony site was stunning and the grounds were a perfect backdrop for photos. Kris, the venue coordinator, was a joy to work with. She was attentive and answered all my many, many questions promptly. I highly recommend getting married here if you are in the market. The Sonnenberg team is lovely, professional, and kind. And the gardens are truly gorgeous. I couldn't have asked for a more magical and beautiful day.

Thank you for having an interest in coming to visit Sonnenberg Gardens. The first floor of the mansion is open so you would want to start the walkthrough of the mansion by 3:30 as the grounds close at 4pm.
No, I'm sorry. We will be closed. Outside of very specific announced events, we are closed November - April.
No, but we are part of the American Horticultural Society Reciprocal Admissions Program.
The square footage doesn't seem to be publicly published, but their website notes it has 3 floors (2 publicly accessible) and 40 rooms.
For the 2019 Garden Season, $15/adult. If the adult is 60+ years old or has a AAA membership, their admission will be $13/person. Please see our website for additional pricing options including children.
Yes and there is a special admission rate of $1/person for all NY State residents.
You can find the complete list of gardens accepting the Reciprocal Admissions Program at the American Horticultural Society's web site. It is truly a wonderful program with more public gardens added every year. Here is the direct link: https://www.ahsgardening.org/gardening-programs/rap/find/statebystate
The estate, along with the mansion built in 1887, was owned by Frederick Ferris Thompson and Mary Clark Thompson. As Mary was originally from this area, we like to think that Sonnenberg was a gift from Frederick to Mary. When Frederick died in 1899, Mary traveled for a few years and then came back to create many of the beautiful gardens that the estate has today -- some modeled after places she and Frederick visited and others after places they would have liked to visit.
