This place could easily be a 5 star review.. But, for 4 years after hurricane Florence, beach access is still closed. There are warning signs everywhere. You cannot access the beach from any access point at all. It is a huge disappointment how this park has been neglected. It has been my favorite for a long time. If you are just going for some light camping or hiking the trails or a picnic, this is a nice quiet area. But, do not expect to have access to the river.

Picnic area is nice but the steps to the water are closed due to damage from Florence back in 2018. It's ridiculous it can't be fixed by now

From the severe cliff erosion from two hurricanes.
There's a host you can make reservations 24/7.
The beach appears to be off limits due to storm damage
There are several parking areas that put you right at the trail entrances without having to access the camping areas.
The trails are free and the beach access is free, (when it is opened), but it costs for camping.
Hiking and biking trails are open and have been upgraded in wash out areas. The money has been appropriated for the picnic area but they have a lot of work to do.
If you are asking about Flanners Beach/Neuse River Campground ... the site is closed indefinitely due to damage from Hurricane Florence.
The following link lists open and closed areas. The camp sites and roads were hit hard during last years hurricanes. https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/nfsnc/alerts-notices/?aid=50049 Once sites are open check the following site for reservations https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234718
