Scam artists, trying to take advantage of seniors . I can’t sell my fathers house because of them since they won’t give me options to pre pay the panels or buy them out before his anniversary date.there is absolutely no language in their contract to help me and no one is useful in the office. I can’t close in 3 weeks and my deal will be thrown away because of these scam artists. Frauds!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. We were excited to go solar, but this company has been a nightmare to deal with. It's been a whole year of email threads that never get responded to regarding issues that remain unresolved. They told us we had to get a new roof before installing the panels. The roofing company put a nail through part of our air conditioning unit and we had to completely replace our whole AC unit, which is only a few years old. Sun Run is completely ignoring all phone calls and emails to discuss reimbursement. We are very easy going people and I never write bad reviews but I'm seconds away from getting a lawyer involved to handle this.

What a disaster even trying to sign up with them. They said hopefully someone will call back after 3 tries and 2 weeks. Bad customer service

VIVINT SOLAR; NOW SUNRUN!!! DON'T DO IT! I purchased my home and was living in it for 5 years paying a very low electricity bill, (less than $50 a month,) cuz heck, we're NOT home all day, were working, children in school etc, until these people came knocking at my door... Now 11 years in my home and 6 years that I went SOLAR with VIVINT, my monthly bill has gotten up TO triple the amount to $120-150 a month; SOMETIMES HIGHER. SO MUCH FOR GOING SOLAR AND THEM PROMISING TO EVEN PAY YOU MONEY. If I could give them a zero star, I would. RUN FROM THEM. STAY AWAY! THIS IS HORRIBLE! If you want to buy the solar panels to be done with the 20 year contract the email they sent me stated that the Fair Market Value:$22,568.00 Sales tax (6.625%): $1,495.13 Total system purchase price: $24,063.13... What a JOKE AND A SCAM!

Questions & Answers

Do the solar panels degrade over time?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

Yes, slightly. Due to sun exposure, weather and other environmental factors, there’s a potential degradation rate of 2.5% the first year the panels are on your roof, and 0.7% per year during the rest of the 20 year term. Most of our panels degrade at a rate lower than this, but we guarantee that they won’t degrade more than the above amount.

What happens to the solar panels at the end of the contract?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

You have a few options once your contract is up. If you are a Solar PPA or Solar Lease customer, you can renew your contract for an additional five years, purchase the solar system for fair market value, or request that the system be removed (at no additional cost). If you are a Solar Loan or Solar Purchase customer, your contract with Vivint Solar ends when the system is installed and operational.

Will solar panels cause my roof to deteriorate?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

No. Our solar panels are not attached directly to your roof, but rather to a racking system that has been wind, water, and fire tested to ensure no leaks or damage will occur. Additionally, shingles on your roof will often last longer under installed panels because they are less exposed to UV light.

What is the warranty on the solar energy system and how long will it last?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

Our warranty guarantees our work will be free from material defects for 10 years, the system's solar panels carry a 25-year linear performance warranty, and inverters carry minimum 10-year manufacturers' warranties.

What’s the difference between a PPA (power purchase agreement) and lease?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

Solar PPA customers pay for all of the energy a system produces, regardless of their individual usage. Solar Lease customers pay a fixed payment based on the expected annual output of the solar energy system.

Aren't solar panels expensive?

Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019
Bryan Caplan | Sep 28, 2019

Not necessarily. At Vivint Solar, we install the solar panels at little to no upfront cost, and our Solar PPA customers typically buy electricity from us at a lower rate (see our website for details) than their utilities. We also sell systems at competitive prices, and have relationships that can help you finance the purchase.
