I have lived in Charleston area for over 30yrs and have visited all Plantation in the area… Hampton Plantation is my favorite… It’s a little out of the way but well worth the trip.. one of the oldest plantation in SC and owned by the same family until it was gifted to the state of SC.. Make sure you take the tour of the home. Our guide was fabulous.

Tour was very informative. Really enjoyed.

The ranger was friendly and helpful. Lots of historical info at visitor center. Mosquitos were hungry.

Beautiful home but you have to pay for a tour to go in. Yet like so many forest service properties the structures are in poor condition and repairs are usually done poorly. Majestic home but not being given the care it deserves. The grounds maintenance is great and the trails and lawns look nice. Worth the stop but plan ahead if you want a tour.

I don't think so, but no tours right now.
Yes there are picnic tables. Covid-19 guidelines may limit their use at this time.
1. It's "Hampton Plantation State Historic Site" 2. There are no scheduled tours on Thursdays, however there will be enough staff available for tours at 12 and 2pm tomorrow.
The guided house tour lasts approximately an hour. 40min of guided tour and 20min free time/questions.
If you check out the map available through their website it has a floorplan of the entire house. https://southcarolinaparks.com/hampton/maps-and-brochures#jump
This was primarily a rice plantation, although the family owned 12 plantations total and also grew indigo, tobacco, sea island cotton, and provision crops.
There is no camping at the park, but 1.7 miles down the road there is tent camping available at the Elmwood Recreational Area (via the National Forest).
You can tour the inside of the house with a Ranger-led guided tour. The cost is currently $7.50/adult, $3.50/child (6-15), $3.75/senior (if they are a SC resident)
