Boxcar stay was comfortable and updated. Owners were friendly and informative. 70-80 trains per day so you will get your fill on passenger and freight. Trains run all the time so use the earplugs. Very unique stay.

Great location close to Indiana sand dunes. Owners super friendly and welcoming. Stayed in the caboose which was beautiful inside! You can hear trains throughout the night which I think adds to the experience, they did have earplugs available. Breakfast in the morning was great. Definitely a unique stay and awesome experience!

I’ve been to numerous rail-themed establishments, though I don’t always know what to think when going because they’re hit-or-miss. I heard about Riley’s Railhouse for a few years and finally decided to go. I was surprised to enjoy being there to the point where I could’ve moved in there (lol). The interior décor is impeccable. The hosts/owners (Richard and Annmarie) were very interactive and were like old friends. Their dedication to detail and presence is quite noteworthy. The breakfast here is downright delightful. There’s no shortage of trains. I haven’t hung out in Chesterton since the Conrail days, but the town has marvelously rebounded (also thanks to the hard philanthropic work of Richard and Annmarie). I walked around a wonderful downtown and saw plentiful restaurants, shops, and yes, trains. Norfolk Southern has a “choke point funnel” where its mainline is clogged with train traffic; a passing train every fourteen minutes (on average) for about eighty trains or so around the clock. I will definitely be back here. Book in advance; rooms sell quickly here. Riley’s is a real WINNER!

We booked the Railhouse for a wedding this past weekend. Great choice! Awesome rooms, location, and space. Breakfast was delicious! Best of all hosts were warm, and welcoming. Will definitely be back and highly recommended.

Pets are allowed to stay with their owners in the Boxcar rooms, just not in the main building.
