Being from out of state and staying in MA. with family, we unfortunately needed emergency pet care for our English Bulldog, Maple. The care we received at this facility was absolutely first class. The Doctors are fantastic and they communicate with the family much better than a hospital for humans! There are a few people that have been communicating with us that we would like to give special attention to for their professionalism, dedication, love of animals, and compassion, Dr. Cox, Dr. Holdmeyer and Dr. Schultz who gave us hope. We also want to give special recognition to Sharon, who not only shows unmatched love and compassion to the pets she attends but the pets family who are in need also! We thank you all for assisting us in the time of need with Maple, our fur-baby and for your positive thoughts about her possible ability to pull through the pneumonia, internal bleeding and Sepsis. All your kindness, compassion and thoughtfulness for our family is greatly appreciated. Thank you to the entire Connecticut Veterinary Center Team. We have faith and trust in their professional advice.

Dr. Mahoney and the crew at Connecticut Veterinary (Windsor and West Hartford locations) are so caring and competent! In addition to routine care, our senior dog needed dental surgery recently. The surgical experience really taught me a lot about the veterinary practice. As someone who is new to Connecticut, I wasn’t sure which vet practice to trust. The team was clear with me at every step of the way about what was happening and would happen with my dog’s treatment. They explained the pricing and charged me in alignment with their projections. I can tell my dog received great care during her overnight stay at the hospital. My dog is happy to go to the vet now, which says a lot!

Brought my dog Bailey in for an emergency visit yesterday. Every other emergency vet within driving distance was either closed or quoting a 6-10 hour wait time. They were able to take my dog back immediately, she was seen by the vet within an hour, and we were done in under 3 hours. Part of the wait was basically waiting 45 minutes for blood work to come back, which is comparable to how long it takes in the hospital for human patients. Dr. Compton called to give us multiple updates, and work with me to develop the best plan of care for my dog. My pup is obviously still exhausted and recovering, but she's able to keep down food, water, and her medications, and is overall doing much better. Was awesome to have her seen right away, and be in and out faster than any other facility could've even SEEN her. Strongly recommend. Basically, Dr. Compton is a great provider (we used to see her 10 years ago when my dog was a puppy and we lived closer, so have seen her over 10 times), and was able to weigh my dog's advanced age and our plans for conservative care as she ages with the need as a provider to provide reasonably prudent care. I didn't have to subject my dog to diagnostic imaging or a hospitalization, provided that I wait for lab results and agreed to closely monitor at home and bring her back if her condition worsened. While other vets were afraid to treat an elderly dog at home, Dr. Compton was willing to work with me and my goals of care with my aging dog, and we found a good balance of appropriate levels of intervention for a geriatric dog who is deeply fearful of the vet. I only wish our regular vet, who is well-aware of my pet, would've been willing to see her instead of referring us out for costly and unnecessary services without a more thorough conversation about our beliefs and treatment goals. It could've prevented us from taking scarce emergency vet resources from other patients. That said, I was relieved to hear Dr. Compton was the one working this weekend, because while it's unlikely she remembers treating my unremarkable black lab 10 years ago, I remember and I trust her as an experienced provider, and it was nice to just trust what she had to say instead of wondering if she was knowledgeable or experienced enough to know best. She guided me through the spaying process, giardia and kennel cough when my dog was a pup, and I felt 100 percent confident sending my dog into the vet ER alone knowing her provider was competent beyond a shadow of a doubt. Thankfully this is likely just another case of intestinal parasites in a dog who has never been able to control herself around bodies of water on hikes, and nothing more serious, but CT vet center and their staff were 100 percent the best choice for us, and they provided the best possible experience and level of care at a competitive price. Honestly, I'm considering transferring my dogs care back to them as she ages, since they have great staff retention and are willing to be realistic about how aggressive we should be in treating animals as they age, weighing quality of life against level of invasive treatments. Probably worth driving half an hour to have a vet who agreed that my dog needed help, but not an inpatient level of care- and was able to know the right questions to ask to determine that.
