Yes, not using distilled water will damage them. We recommend checking/filling them with distilled water once or twice a month to prolong the life of your batteries. Distilled water keeps any impurities from getting in the battery and ruining it.
It depends on the cart- If it's a club car, there is usually a sticker under the dash with the serial number. Ez-Go is a bit different- It's usually on the steering column or under the front cowl.
