I haven’t been to churches for about 25 years. I was raised catholic, but I don’t tie myself to any religion today. That being said, I have been attending mass at St Anthony’s nearly daily, all Summer. The reasons Athena listed are great example of why I am back to the church: I found a place where people have faith but are not unreasonable fanatics that call anything “miracle” as if it was a magic spectacle. Miracle presents itself in many sensible forms, if one is not inclined to equaling divine miracle with insane magic tricks. The church is beautiful! The grounds are peaceful. The mass happens on time, with the priest sharing a beautiful and inspiring message daily. Attendees are a wonderful community of kind and polite people. I love arriving several minutes before the 7:30AM mass to relax and soak in the peace of this place. I love seeing Jesus as a wonderful and caring man, with a love and gift for calming hearts of other people. Athena’s review prompted me to write this. An orthodox with the name and statue of the great pagan goddess Athena…

I was a member of this church for over 20 years. However, a few months ago, I spoke to the head priest, who gave me advice on a problem. This led into talking about good and evil. He told me that Jesus never performed miracles. He said when Jesus took five loaves and two fish and was able to feed 5,000 people, that wasn't actually a miracle; the miracle was that he got everyone to sit down together. The priest also said that Jesus never healed the blind man; Jesus laid his hands upon him and he was able to see the world differently. How can this priest preach about God and Christ yet not believe in His miracles?! I should have asked him if he believed Jesus is the Son of God since the priest made him out to be a regular man. This confirmed I made the right choice to convert to Orthodox Christian before I got married. In the new church I go to, Jesus has always been the Son of God, who died for our sins; the priests there don't deny nor downplay all that Christ has done for us.
