I live nearby and have played deer island many times. 8 weeks ago I had a total shoulder replacement surgery. I really enjoy golf. I decided to start my comeback by driving to deer island a few days ago and use the practice putting green. I arrived at 4pm with no one on the course and the parking lot empty. I walked to the putting green and after about 5 strokes an employee pulled up in a cart and told me to leave. I walked over and politely told him about my surgery and I can't hit golf balls yet but only putt. He said I have to pay to play or pay for a bucket of balls to hit on the range or leave. So I said OK and left. I left the parking lot for the last time. There are plenty of other golf courses for me and my friends to play. I posted this after it happened. A day later I received a nice message from deer island that said they were sorry about my experience and please call a manager and they would make things right. So I called and asked for a manager and started to explain to her what happened. She sternly told me with a confident voice that Deer Island's policy is that you have to pay to play or use the driving range or you can't put on the practice putting green no exceptions! So-- evidently the nice message that I received is an automatic reply for all bad reviews. Like I said the first time---- I left their parking lot for the last time and taking all my friends with me. I would hope anyone reading this will enjoy another nearby course. The management of Deer Island will make sure you will not enjoy playing there.
