It all depends. Some people are approved and paid within two months after filing a claim. Other cases can take years. Some people are never approved. It can depend upon where you live. Some Social Security offices take longer than others. It varies over time. Because of Covid-19, it's taking longer that it did a year ago. The most common route to approval is filing a claim, getting denied at the initial level, requesting reconsideration, getting denied again, asking for a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge and finally getting approved and paid. That takes something like a 18-24 months these days. It's not the attorney taking that long. That time is spent waiting for Social Security to act.
