Would give zero stars if possible. Purchased home, auto and umbrella through this company for roughly 9 months. All staff members are unprofessional and are unknowledgeable. My auto-insurance went up slightly when buying a new vehicle, roughly $100 for the year, which I understand However, I received no phone calls or written warnings about the change in price. They sent one written letter threatening to completely cancel my policy if I didn't pay the difference in several weeks. The home insurance was somehow worse. The house I purchased is 120 years old, so it needs some work. A majority of the issues the underwriter listed about the exterior of the house, were cosmetic. (I.e. chipped paint, minor patches of dry rot on decorative eaves). There was one safety issue, a hand rail was not present on a set of stairs. The rest of the home had much more pressing issues, damaged foundation, out of code wiring, broken sewer line, etc. The cost of these renovations cost every dollar in my name. They were legitimate safety issues that need to be addressed. I emphasized several times that the money needed to go towards more pressing issues. Furthermore, I live in a town where contractors are booked out 8-12 months. I asked if I could fix the hand-rail, and do the cosmetic issues later. This led to them cancelling my policy.

Horrible experience signing up for this insurance...more paperwork, phone surveys (they don't trust their agents obviously), site visits, vehicle photo visits, and then follow-up calls to ensure they have the correct information...the process of switching from State Farm to NYCM was more difficult than closing on the house with 3 lawyers and a bank...was with State Farm for over 30 years...sorry I switched.

We were with NYCM for 10 years when they decided to not renew our policy. According to them we had too many claims. The claims in question, consisted of 2 deer collisions, several auto glass replacements (a known problem for the model of car we had at the time), one incident when someone hit our car while we were not in it and it was parked in a parking lot. And an incident where we were rear ended waiting to take a left turn. While the representative we spoke to was sympathetic, we were told there was nothing they could do. I cannot tell how much of a blessing this was! We found another company, added our homeowners as well and ended up saving $300 a year. Good riddance, if anyone else is looking, make sure shop around
