This base allows community members to shop and play at their facilities. Great gym, pool, parks, thrift store, bowling alley, seasonal events, and their MWR for tickets. The China Lake Museum (located outside the actual base entrance) is a good place to learn about all the cool things that have been developed there and the kinds of specialized testing they do. And then there's the petroglyphs!!!

Questions & Answers

Could weapon testing or geothermal power system be causing the earthquakes?

Randy Smith | Sep 25, 2019
Chris Turner | Sep 25, 2019

Personally, the powers to be, should be looking at the issue of fracking in Kern County. Kern County allows fracking, not just the huge oil/gas industry, but the experimental geothermal hydrofracturing and directional drilling on the base with the help of DOE. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss fracking on the edge of tetonic plates as the cause of these large quakes in Ridgecrest.

I’m not an expert but these earthquakes were felt all around which gives it a diameter or a circular shape similar to an underground nuclear testings, and isn’t it next to “China Lake Naval Weapon Station” any thoughts ?

I thought the exact same, especially since the base was at the epicenter of the earthquake

Is there fishing there in the lake and is it aloud?

desirae beebe | Sep 25, 2019

No it's not that kinda lake it's a ancient dried up Ocean that is so much salt that you can't enter the water and the dirt around it as you get closer is like quicksand it's fenced of from human and animal contact such as ducks

In what year was the property for this base bought and from whom. and for how much. I'm told it was on a place once called Browns Station. Thank you LaVern Reim Vencent Salsa

I worked with a gentleman by the name Fred Schuette at the then Kerr McGee Westend facility in Trona. I lived in Ridgecrest. The US Navy started acquiring this site in 1943 for R&D. Fred Schuette would tell me that his parents had a ranch about where the Geotheminal is. He was born on on that ranch. The US Navy gave his family very little compensation and they never received fair value. Ridgecrest was originally a dairy farm called Crumville. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridgecrest,_California
