It really depends on what packages you do. We combined open water and advanced. And you generally pay by the certification such as open water or advanced (or specialties.) These guys are amazing in recommend just stopping in and talking to them!
The confined water (pool) and classroom sessions are completed in a weekend. You may also choose online training in place of classroom. The checkout dives in open water, lake or ocean, you may complete in another weekend.
As in used? I believe so, i have certainly bought used gear (BCD) and been very happy with my purchase.
