I'd say more like 4.5 stars. We had a package for dinner and one for breakfast as part of our stay. Though we enjoyed both meals with great service, menu items are limited. It would be great to see some other small plate options or more appetizers that appeal to more than seafood lovers. The breakfast buffet was WOW, and worth the wait. And the views are absolutely beautiful.

We had the Salmon Caesar Salad and the Fish & Chips. Food was OK. I felt the size of the Salmon could have been bigger. Nothing was bad but nothing stood out as great. They do have many options for Seafood eaters. I may return to try steak or ribs and update my review. Hopefully that's better.

Smithfield Station is one of the most reliable seafood restaurants in Virginia, and it is one of VERY FEW restaurants I recommend without fear of disappointing anyone—including myself. It is a place guests return to over and over after they have visited the first time, so today the parking area fills fairly often. In the search for Jumbo Lump Crabmeat, the game is over—the “Beautiful Swimmers” of yesteryear have abandoned the Chesapeake Bay, nobody ever refers to Hampton as “Crabtown, U.S.A.,” anymore, even as a bad joke. I have pretty much sworn off crabcakes when dining out, as I have suffered some horrible contrivances since Hampton shut down all its crab factories in favor of lawyer mills: and Covid-19 pretty much killed the restaurants as well. But the other night, Smithfield Station’s Restaurant offered several specials, so I cross-examined my charming waitress—who went and pumped the chef: and I discovered they had brought crabmeat in from Nicaragua! That’s a long way South. So now I am prepared to say that the Smithfield Station Chef is a miracle worker, because it has been several years since I have had such an excellent crabcake (except from my wife’s kitchen, of course—but that’s a lot of work for her!) I’m pretty sure his recipe has nothing but crabmeat and heavy cream, but it is the recipe I certainly recommend! The whole menu is filled with sure-fire meals, painstakingly developed and prepared. It may be an adventure for you to get to Smithfield Station for dinner—or even to find a parking space when you arrive—but it will be worth your while!

This was our very first time eating here and it was amazing. For an appetizer we had the blackened tuna ND by far it was the best we have had. Or main entrees we also really good.
