Note that the sanctuary is closed for nesting season of the birds until the end of September. Hadn’t realized this until we drove down - thankfully just from beach haven. You can only go on a small portion of beach and the rest is off limited.

I'm glad my husband stumbled upon this place this morning. This place is beautiful. Benches are available if you just want to watch the view. Good amount of parking spaces and bathrooms are available too but was closed during my visit. I have been to this place several times and it gives me that sense of peace whenever I visit. I love this place!

It's ok if you ONLY want to sit & watch the waves....or "nature".....maybe surf in that small area. If you don't mind people surfing 2 ft next to you. Never saw such!! Maybe it was surfing lessons. Came a hour out the way and VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED.... The only shells are broken, crushed.... Facing shore frome parking lot, there's benches. Look right on the shore, blocked off. Look left, small opened area. What you see is what you get!!

Yes fishing is allowed. As mentioned it is very popular in fall and spring. I believe you are allowed walking access day after labor day or 9/1. Check on that but its beginning of September for sure. You can drive on it but need a permit ($50). It closes in Summer due to migratory birds and mating / hatching of eggs.
The nature preserve is closed but you can put your feet in the water next to the preserve
