There may not be a date on the cooker. If there is a date - on the bottom or under the handle - it will look something like a 2 over top of a 74. This would indicate February 1974 as the manufacturer date. Hope this helps!
I have a Mirro M0522-11 Pressure cooker (22 Qt) and ordered a new gasket and pressure relief plug recently from Red Hill. The gasket seems a little large. The one you sent doesn't lie flat like the old one. It seems big. Is that normal? Thanks

Soaking it in warm water for 10 minutes may help. Test it by putting some water in the pot and bring it up to pressure to see if it will seal. There are two gaskets for your model number: the 9882 and 3440. Both are the same diameter but the 3440 is thicker. You need to know the date your pot was manufactured to be sure you have the right thickness.

I just purchased a replacement lid for my 921 American canner, I noticed by the handle there is a rubber plug, my old lid has a metal insert in that location do I need to replace the rubber plug with the metal plug

No, as the rubber plug will not interchange with the metal plug. The metal plugs are no longer produced and have been replaced with the rubber plugs in the later models.
