We presume you are inquiring about our Section 8 Program. Section 8 is funded by the federal government to support a specific number of "vouchers" here in Rockingham County. (Every family or individual is awarded a voucher to offset payment of their rent.) If the federal government, (HUD) doesn't award our office any additional funding, then we are unable to add new families or individuals to our program. Occasionally some people drop off of the program. When they do, we draw from our waiting list to replace those who leave the program. Our waiting list has several hundred people hoping to be placed at any given time. Sometimes, the list becomes outdated, and we add new applicants for the program. In any given year, only a few new families will receive vouchers for housing in Rockingham County. If the federal government ever provides us with additional funding, we will be happy to enroll new families in the Section 8 Program.

No, if you are on Section 8 you may live anywhere in Rockingham County for the first year. After the first year, you may live anywhere in the country where your Section 8 voucher will be accepted (by another Housing Authority).
