My mother had to be place in rehab two separate times which both times she and us siblings chose Oaks Hammock. The staff and nurses are absolutely amazing. The care they provided for my mother was the BEST care she could have gotten. I have always said if and when the time comes I would want to be at this rehab facility. My mother is deceased now but at the time she didn’t even want to come home. I would recommend this rehab facility to anybody and everybody I know. They are the best All I can say is thank you all for your care and rehabilitation they gave my mother the two times she was there. She loved each and everyone of ya. Thank you for your care and dedication.

This was our personal experience; it's taken me several years to get over the outrageous treatment my beloved mother received in their "skilled nursing" facility. With few exceptions of staff, my mother was neglected and ignored and if we hadn't taken her out after a few weeks, it is my opinion she would have died prematurely. They like to say they have a good nurse to patient ratio, but it's still not enough for people who need end of life care, which is what my Mom required, and what Oak Hammock advertises. She was classified ADL, needing assistance with daily living. She was unable to eat, toilet, etc., without help. But with few exceptions, this never happened. It was like terminal patients were second class citizens. WE ended up picking up the slack, helping her eat, etc. We did this out of love. But for $10,000+ per month, one would expect the staff to do their job. One assistant was so disrespectful & rude, refusing to help my Mother with something & starting an argument, that she was fired the next day. Press the help button & wait forever. Rude nurses (not all), rude supervisors, one in particular named Marie, who put up numerous roadblocks that negatively impacted my mother's health. She said she felt unqualified to work there when she was hired because she had so much less education than many of the residents. In my opinion, that may be the ONLY thing she was right about. For example, during a group consultation regarding my Mother's care, rather than focusing on health, she wanted to make sure we knew that anyone there as her advocate could not get food from the little food area for free. Really? Food police? Why would someone focus on that instead of patient care? My Mom had to be taken to the Shands ER during her brief stay at Oak Hammock. She was there for several days. While there, they noticed the beginning of a bedsore. Upon returning to Oak Hammock, she should have been constantly repositioned to help it heal. They ignored this and didn't reposition her, and it became a full-blown bedsore. All I could imagine with seeing how she was treated, was how would they have treated a stroke patient that was immobile? Would they refuse to help them eat if they were bedridden, like my Mom? Would they leave them in their filth? Would they say they would not even do simple things like help them brush their teeth? That's just the beginning. Medication errors, patient assessment errors (oh, she's just sleeping... No, she's UNCONSCIOUS!! ) They'd pop in for a few minutes, think she's asleep and leave. No monitoring of bowel movements (very important if someone's on narcotics, and part of why she had to go to the ER). Nurse note errors. Confusion over who her doctor was (a problem for patients on Hospice. There were two doctor's dealing with her at one point) I still have a note one of the (nice) nurses left one night explaining why she decided NOT to give my Mom her medication!! It was so bad we chose to remove her ASAP, and Marie had the audacity to say (without consulting the Doctor) that she wouldn't let my Mom leave peacefully... NO, she said she was declaring it "Against Medical Advice," and if we took her home, we would be investigated by social services, among other threats. It was like watching a scene of Nurse Ratched in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." She kept rolling out excuses as to why my Mom shouldn't leave. Until, thank the Good Lord Jesus, the doctor called Marie during this horrible meeting, and after hearing the situation, the DOCTOR, not Marie, said my Mom could go freely any time. When we had her packed & were leaving the grounds it felt like we were taking her out of prison. We had to pay a month in advance to get her in. After half a month of Hell, we were due a refund. Instead we got a bill for around $5,000! So even the accounting dept had it's issues. We took all this up the chain to the top executives. Result? Nothing. No apologies, nothing. But they did say Marie said she "could have handled it better." Genius. If you have a loved one in "Skilled Nursing," please have an advocate!

Don’t send your loved ones here ! It’s too expensive to not have the proper care you paid for ! None of the nurses care about your loved ones needs all they do is sit on the phone all day and watch movies for 12 hours ! Amanda and Brittany are rude and disrespectful and treat the residents like they don’t mean anything ! It’s really sad ! Especially Nurses on 3rd Shift those are the worse of them all they absolutely do nothing for you loved ones they complain to residents when the residents are in pain and in need of medication ! They refuse to help with a 2 person resident ! One night a lady was in need of using the bathroom immediately I asked the first person I seen a nurse Named “Anunciacion Tamayo” refused to help me and demanded me to go find another CNA ! It’s just so unprofessional there !

Communities like Oak Hammock, which provide lifetime residences and long-term health care, require an entrance fee and an ongoing monthly fee for services and amenities. The entrance fee ensures that we will be able to provide our residents with top-quality services and amenities. A portion of the entrance fee includes a pre-funded component for health care services - very much like a long-term care insurance policy. The entrance fee and the monthly fee increase as your square footage per residence increases. Entrance fees range from approximately $195,000 to over $1 million, and fees vary depending on which contract is chosen and the number of occupants per residence.
