I had my Bar Mitzvah here back in 1987. Really beautiful Synagogue, but we mostly did it to please my grandparents, since they were Orthodox (I was just waiting for the big reception party with friends and family back at our house following the ceremony) & my parents raised my sister and I VERY secular (they didn't even make us go to Hebrew school either) and we were free to make up our own minds regarding Judaic practices and worship. I also attended high school nearby at Edward R. Murrow, so I always would pass by EMJC on my way to and from school. I got a partial scholarship from them for going to Israel with a program the summer after I graduated from Murrow, and also for when I went off to college a couple of years after that, so EMJC REALLY cares about the community.
