After checking out the nearby OBX Lizard Land in Currituck, NC, my family and I stopped at Pass the Salt Cafe for a late lunch. Despite it being 2 P.M. there was a decent crowd inside, and by the time we left an hour later the dinner rush was already starting. We were seated at a table with a cool sea turtle painting on it. My wife and I enjoyed a couple of local brews while looking over the menu. The choice was easy for me, the Pamlico Pimento ($8.50 with a side). This sandwich combines house-made pimento cheese with crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, house dressing, and drizzled with red pepper jelly on a grilled French roll. Wow, this was great! I really loved the sweet and spicy flavor of the jelly, and their pimento cheese is delicious. Our entire family was happy with their meal. There isn't much restaurant competition in the area, but even if there was, Pass the Salt would be at the top of the list.

The food was acceptable. The service was dreadful. Slow and angry staff. There was a pregnant staffer who was throwing chairs around and then she slammed our food down on the table too. She was not our waitress, so I don't know what the 'tude was over. Our waitress was very slow and never checked on us, we had to catch her for a tea refill and ditto for the bill. They were not busy, so I suspect either the manager was not there or they have never been trained on proper wait service. Either way we will never go back. We drive down every week and this could have been our new place to eat, but I don't need the anger and stress the staff brought to our meal.

Cute little place in a old house. The prices were really good for lunch. Dinner prices are around the $12 price point.. A little bit of a wait after ordering but not bad. Sandwiches are really good. I recommend the bacon apple melt for less than $9 it has bacon, apple, cheese, honey, on sourdough. Locals hang out here. We will definitely come back to try more on the menu.

A wonderful restaurant we stumbled upon several years ago in each time we make the trip to the outer banks in North Carolina we stopped in for lunch. Small but very well managed and the food is superb. Reasonably priced, good size portions, and they all taste great.

Come in and we will gladly take care of that for you.
You must wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking. The tables are spaced not quite 6 feet apart but you will have to wait in your car if the maximum occupancy has been reached.
