Best sushi in Monterey County. The service is great and professional, I don’t know what people are talking about in prior reviews. The fish is incredibly fresh and flown in directly from Japan or locally sourced. The chef also timed every dish perfectly so that the fish was served at the exact temperature it needed to be. Overall an amazing experience, would definitely recommend to anyone in town.

Finally found high quality sushi in the Monterey Bay Area! I went here with my son who was a sushi chef at Nobu. He said it was Nobu level quality. This picture is their Chirashi which cost $40. Fresh and tasty.

My niece and I planned a sushi dinner date. We were looking forward to this highly recommended place. While I looked for parking, I asked my niece to get a table. When I approached the restaurant, my niece was outside; she looked puzzled. My niece told me when she asked for a table, the lady said “no table”. My niece then asked if we could sit at the bar, the lady said “no”. My niece asked if they were booked all night, the lady said “yes”. My niece said the lady was rude and wouldn’t even look at her. 3 minute later, I walked in and asked for a table for 2, she smiled and said “yes, in half hour”. I was stunned! I walked out and told my niece, the look on her face broke my whole self, not just my heart, but every part of me. We were crushed 😔 I asked my niece to go to the car while I went back inside. I asked the lady if she could explain why 3 minutes before I asked for a table, my niece was told there was no table available the entire night. The lady replied “I don’t understand”, I clarified “My niece, who is black, asked for a table 3 minutes before me and was told NO” She Immediately became frazzled and asked me to leave. Good riddance! Serendipitously: We landed at a neighboring sushi restaurant and were welcomed as soon as we walked in. We chit chatted with a couple sitting at the bar for a minute while they set our table, they sent us a bottle of sake, just because. The food was excellent. The service was friendly. There was a heart in my soup. We had a great experience. We ended our night laughing at the Whaling Station with 3 desserts, cocktails, wine, coffee and the best bartender! 😍 We highly recommend dining at Hanagasa! ⬅️ good 😡🤬 AVOID AKAONI! 🤬😡 ⬅️ bad Be kind to all humans, always!
