I ordered the prime rib. 1/5 of it was excellent, the other 4/5 could barely be cut by the steak knife. The baked potato was impossible to eat. the cooked potato inside the skin seemed to be glued in. Wife ordered sweetbreads,. After eating about a third, she said there seemed to be a problem with it and would eat no more. 20 minute drive got us home barely in time for her to throw it all up.

My family and I took a chance and made a reservation 45 minutes before La Gare opened for an early bird dinner. So glad we gave it a go. The waiter, who was the nicest waiter my 16 year old nephew stated to me numerous times, was so accommodating and friendly. Food was brought out timely and each course was delicious. From the warm rolls and soup to start to the affogato and sorbets at the end. This place is old school which is charming amidst so many modern California cuisine eateries. It’s a great restaurant with good food and service. Will definitely return in the near future.

I would love to have given this place 5 stars but something was just off the entire time we were there. The first thing was the younger gentleman who brought us our wine was almost bragging that when he lets people try the bottle and they don't like it, they still have to pay unless it's skunked. I get perfecting profit margins but in fine dining you should always be able to return a bottle if it doesn't meet your expectations. But the wine and appetizers were good so I let it slide. Then for the entree I was told there was only one order of special left and how good it was, so I order it, the fillet and lobster. When it came the lobster was pure rubber. I told the waitress and she looked like she didn't believe me and went to get the manager. Luckily he saw right away and asked what I would like as a replacement. I settled on crab cakes but sadly they were more filling then crab and way under seasoned. This place has potential and maybe covid has caused them to tightened there belts, but it's far from 5 stars as it stands right now.

Hi there! Marco was the owner/chef of La Gare. He and his wife started La Gare 40 years ago. Sadly he passed away almost 20 years ago and the restaurant has continued under his 2 children, Jackie and Roger.
